Figaro | OSC

OSC Figaro in Ursem takes care of children aged 4 to 12 years old after school. A group will be guided by a permanent team of three to four child care workers, two of whom will always be present.

Figaro is housed in the community school (‘brede school’) Batter in Ursem. This is a new, spacious building, in a safe environment, with a colourful interior. The building also houses children’s day-care centre Figaro, playgroup De Keetschoppertjes and two primary schools (the Langereis and the Bavoschool). This makes it easy for your child to go to the care centre when school is out.

The care hours during schooldays take place between 07:00 AM and 18:00 PM.

Playing indoors

At OSC Figaro there is a lot of room for relaxation. The activities we offer are age-focused and stimulate the development of the child. Different play corners have been created, such as one for building, one for dressing up and a puppet corner. Children are always allowed to make use of the large collection of games in the gaming cupboard. The drawing table is ideal for drawing, painting or puzzling. We even have a library full of fun and exciting children’s books. We often organise afternoons for arts and crafts, based on different themes that are made up by the children. We provide the space to every child for independent self-development, at its own pace, by playing and discovering. A lot of attention is paid to the children’s independence. We always try to encourage this, in co-operation with the parents. It is important to us to guide children when taking responsibility. This is why we make agreements with the children and make them aware of the consequences. This is a process that takes place within the 8+ group especially. Children from the age of 7 are given the opportunity to go home with a friend or a classmate, on the condition that they come back on their own accord, at the agreed upon time.

Playing outdoors

Exercise and fresh air are important for a child. This is why we can often be found outdoors. The children have access to the football field next door and our ‘natural outdoor playing’ square for various outdoor activities. There is a shed over there full of outdoor toys that the children are always allowed to use. Children can register for different activities within or outside the premises, such as cooking or gardening. During school holidays we organise outings, searches or arts and crafts activities.
