De Berkabouter | Playgroup

Starting 17 September 2018, we also offer a 3+ group on Wednesdays in Berkhout!

The playgroup offers child care for children aged 2 to 4 years old. We work with permanent, experienced child care workers.

Playgroup De Berkabouter is housed in the same building as primary school Geert Holle. This makes the transition of ‘peuterklas’ (2-3 years old) to ‘kleuterklas’ (4-6 years old) less impactful. Toddlers want to discover the world themselves and learn new things. A playgroup is the most important place for this. In our playgroup, children are allowed to make their own choices and we encourage the child’s independence. Toddlers are free to play independently but also to partake in collective activities. All developmental areas are being addressed. In addition, next to cognitive development, a lot of attention is spent on the social-emotional and motoric development.

Child care

Your toddler is welcome at ours on Monday and Thursday morning, or on Tuesday and Friday morning from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Toddlers from the age of 3 years old can stay with us on Wednesday morning in the 3+ group, which is open from 8:30 AM to 12:00 AM. We are closed during the holidays.

Do you want to know more about this location, or are you curious about the possibilities for your child? Then please contact us.

Playing indoors

We have all sorts of fun play corners, such as a home corner, language/book corner and a construction corner. In our home corner there is a rack full of dressing up clothing, from a princess gown to a dragon suit. This is how we encourage the imagination, creativity and empathy of the toddlers every day anew. We often work with themes, such as the seasons and holidays like Sinterklaas and Christmas. The activities we carry out are always in line with the chosen theme and stimulate cognitive, sensory and creative development. We also have a special thematic table and a thematic corner. During the activities we monitor the development of the children well. This is how we can respond to possible lagging developments and intervene timely with individual support.

After working in groups, we sit down together in a circle to eat a cookie, talk about the season and read from a little book or sing songs together. Then it is time for a breath of fresh air and we go outside together. After we have played outdoors, we eat some fruit and then there is still room to play freely. The toddlers can do some claying, play with Lego or dance to music. The toddlers can see what’s planned for the day on our daily rhythm cards, which is how we try to maintain order and tranquility for the children.

Playing outdoors

Playing outdoors is an important part of the day for us. Our spacious, green outdoor terrain is designed according to the principles of natural outdoor playing. This means that the children will discover nature while we stimulate physical exercise. Children are able to run, ride a bicycle, or play on the swings or the seesaw. There is a horse manege next to our playgroup, where there are many, many horses grazing the pasture, a beautiful picture for our daily enjoyment. The toddlers have access to their own shed full of tractors, bicycles, push cars, tricycles, goals, football, sandbox toys and much more fun playing material.

3+ group Berkhout
When they are three years old, children will go through a little developmental leap. They want to be challenged and play together more. A great need will arise to ‘learn’ more and to acquire certain skills. The children want to be taken seriously about this desire. At this age they increasingly notice the world around them and they have a growing desire to understand it. They practice all kinds of actions they see around them daily by role playing, such as buying something in a shop or going to the doctor’s.

For children aged 3 years and older in day-care centre Gepetto and playgroup de Berkabouter, but also for children in other day-care centres or playgroups who are registered at the Geert Holleschool, SKiK offers an extra daily period on the Wednesday morning, for a perfect preparation to primary school!
